Panthers Drop 11 Players! Shocking Names Revealed | Roster Countdown

The Panthers are on the brink of finalizing their roster for the upcoming season. Despite having a few days left to trim down to 53 players, the team’s front office has already initiated the process. A list of 11 players who have been waived has been revealed by the team:

panthers roster cuts 11 players revealed

OT Larnel Coleman
S Collin Duncan
DL Antwuan Jackson
WR Gary Jennings
QB Jake Luton
RB Camerun Peoples
LB Bumper Pool
WR CJ Saunders
S Josh Thomas
K Matthew Wright
CB Rejzohn Wright

While these cuts may not come as a surprise, there are still a few notable names among them. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggests that the Panthers might be starting this process earlier to entice other teams into making waiver claims. This strategic move could potentially improve Carolina’s position in the league rankings.

Of significance is Jake Luton, given his position as a quarterback. Although he hasn’t played in a regular-season game since his winless stint with the Jaguars in 2020, Luton has held backup roles with various teams such as the Seahawks, Dolphins, and Saints in recent years. He joined the Panthers in July after being a sixth-round pick.

Matthew Wright is another notable player who is likely to be considered as a backup kicker when injuries hit other teams. He served as the Jaguars’ primary kicker in 2021, achieving an impressive 87.5% success rate in field goals and 86.7% in extra points. In 2022, he split his time between the Chiefs and Steelers, successfully converting 15 of 18 field goal attempts and all 15 extra point attempts.

Earlier on Saturday, head coach Frank Reich mentioned that the organization was facing challenging decisions ahead of the roster deadline on Tuesday. Currently, the Panthers still need to release 26 more players to meet the roster requirements.
