A groundbreaking trade proposal is in the works, with the NFL‘s top wide receiver potentially joining a struggling AFC team, setting the stage for a major shakeup in the league.
Despite an exceptional performance by fourth-year wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who boasts 20 receptions and leads the league with 309 receiving yards going into Week 3, the Minnesota Vikings have struggled in their opening two games of the season.
Unfortunately, Jefferson and the Vikings couldn’t reach an agreement on a contract extension before the 2023 season kicked off. With Minnesota’s ongoing struggles and the possibility of Jefferson not committing to an extension in 2024, the question arises: Could the Vikings be considering trading their franchise star?
On X (formerly known as Twitter), the FanDuel sportsbook has floated a substantial trade proposal. In this scenario, the Minnesota Vikings would send their superstar wide receiver to the New England Patriots in exchange for the Patriots’ 2024 first and third-round draft picks, along with an additional first-round selection in 2025.
The Patriots have been without a game-changing wide receiver of Jefferson’s caliber since the days of Randy Moss. There’s no doubt that the addition of this LSU standout would significantly bolster their passing game, which has struggled since Tom Brady’s departure in 2020.
Given the circumstances, Jefferson appears to be a logical trade target for New England, provided that Minnesota decides to make him available. However, only time will reveal the Vikings’ ultimate decision.
Ideally, both parties would come to terms on a new contract that would solidify Jefferson’s status as the highest-paid non-quarterback offensive player in the NFL.
